Our Macmillan Cake-Away was a huge success.

�� Our Macmillan Cake-Away morning was a huge success. We were busy from 10:30am until 1pm welcoming visitors for cake, cuppa and a chat, it was also a beautiful dry day which meant we could open up outside seating in our small courtyard. It was wonderful to catch up with regular clients and also welcome new faces into the salon and showcase what we are about. Together with cake sales and raffle ticket sales for our pamper hamper we raised a magnificent £307.60.

Huge huge thank you to everyone that supported us, fundraising really does help to make a big difference xx

Congratulations Janice!

Monday marked an important day at Nellie Taylors as we saw our very first Pedicure Student Janice Whyment, successfully pass training and receive her Beauty Guild Certificate. This qualification now enables Janice to gain insurance to work professionally providing pedicure treatments.

All of our beauty courses are accredited by the Beauty Guild and require practical training held at our salon in Heckington, Sleaford. All students also complete certificated Covid-19 training ensuring that they have an understanding of the virus and the importance of current protocols and how to implement them.

It feels amazing to open our doors again!

After months of lockdown, it just feels amazing to open our doors and welcome back our clients old and new. The salon (I refer to it as her or she) has had a freshen up outside and we are just waiting for her window boxes and new signs to arrive. Reception has a whole new look and there have been a couple of changes to our treatment rooms too, but you need to come along and book yourself some 'me time' to see those.

We have some exciting new treatments to launch including new products and equipment that we are sure you will be keen to experience .... 'light therapy' .... there's a little spoiler for you ��. We just need the Government to lift the restriction on facials and we can press the green light on go ✅

Of course we will be launching the new Heaven Skincare, Nettle Venom facial by Deborah Mitchel. The vegan alternative to the Bee Sting Facial and let me tell you the results are amazing, that little British Nettle has one mighty hidden talent! So watch out for upcoming promotions and competitions. That's right, if its good enough for Camilla and Posh ....

And then there's our training academy, we are just finalising the next dates for August. We can currently offer you Manicure, Pedicure and Gel Polish training, all our courses are Beauty Guild accredited which means they are professional, industry recognised qualifications. Hair & Beauty Professionals Against Domestic Abuse

�� We are proud to incorporate 'BEHIND THE MASK' training into our Beauty Courses so that the next generation of therapists are aware of the signs of domestic abuse and how they can truly help.

�� Behind the Mask was launched in July 2019. It offers U.K. hair and beauty professional’s free online training to help them spot the signs that someone may be experiencing domestic abuse and how they could respond in the best way.

Domestic Abuse may take one or more forms that could be physical, psychological, sexual, harassing, coercive or controlling. Given that domestic abuse includes a wide range of behaviours, it can be hard to spot and injuries may be masked by clothing or makeup.

Around 1 in 4 women will experience abuse in their lifetime. On average, 2 women are killed each week and for many reasons, some may choose not tell anyone what’s going on. With some insight, a therapist’s unique relationship with their clients may reveal what’s hidden behind their ‘mask’.

Many women use the services of a hairdresser and beauty therapist and tell them things that they wouldn’t say to anyone else. We may notice injuries or the consequence of them. With regular clients, they may recognise behavioural changes. Our salons and treatment areas may be seen as a safe and relaxing spaces to our clients and it may be one of the few opportunities they have to reach out for help or be open to it. It’s not about intervening or interfering, it’s simply suggesting the services of those who are specially trained to help in a way that’s informed and meaningful. Our listening ear along with a kind word may change or save a life.

During 2018, beauty therapist Julie Knight asked UK hair and beauty professionals for their views on the necessity of such a programme and how to make it really accessible. 100% of over 200 respondents said it was necessary. 98% said that a short online training programme would make it easier to use. With their help, the name was chosen. Julie consulted a number of interested parties to help inform the training programme along with her personal insight and professional knowledge given her past career in policing that spans nearly 30 years.

Behind the Mask is available free of charge and the content will be reviewed annually. Participants of the programme will be invited to revisit the training to refresh their knowledge every 2 years.

Sun Safety and Skin Cancer

�� DO YOU CHECK YOUR SKIN? ��

☀️Checking my skin has now become second nature, I have many moles and freckles and because of this I attend dermatology every year as I am in the high risk bracket for skin cancer. I have spent years worshipping the sun to achieve the perfect tan and wasted countless hours on sun beds. Fortunately for me the many suspect moles that I have had removed have all been benign, this means they are non cancerous....sighs in relief!

My sunbathing days are long over and I wear SPF50 on my face 365 days of the year, I really miss laying in the sun but I can't risk my life anymore for a tan. I would never ask anyone not to enjoy the sun but I do urge you to do so carefully and safely, always using a decent broad spectrum suncream, ideally SPF 30+.

With skin cancer being the UK's most common, fastest rising cancers and with an incredible 86% of them preventable its more important than ever to educate yourself, be vigilant and check your skin and your families skin regularly.

Please have a look at the information and the body mapping sheet below. Print them off, map all your moles and review monthly for any changes. Make this part of your routine, sometimes moles seem to change over night and early detection is vital.

If you are ever concerned about changes to moles or areas of your skin have changed in texture, appearance or just don't look right, consult your GP. It will more than likely be ok but it's better to be safe .... and don't forget I do notice your skin when you're having your massage, I'm not hovering over you with a magnifying glass but I am paying attention.

�� I only popped down to the salon because I was missing it and I ended up moving something, then something else and before I could stop myself I had completely moved everything around. A bit of decorating is needed, then all putting back together and the salon is going to look very different.

�� Feeling very excited, when we eventually reopen we will have a new look salon along with new products and treatments....it will be amazing to welcome you all back.

Stay Positive

Like many other businesses we have had to close our doors and take some time out until we have transitioned through Covid19. These are uncertain times for all of us and in many ways our lives have been turned upside down but after the initial utter panic of the financial implications for us I have completely embraced this time to catch my breath.

In the salon we are always promoting the importance of me time , self care and just taking some t ime out for you and now there are no excuses, we have been given the most incredible chance to focus on ourselves. This is now the time to reconnect, to reconnect with YOU , nature, friends, loved ones. This is the time to plan and put into practice all the things you never had time or the energy to focus on, start meditating, taking exercise, learning a new language, catching up with old friends, planning for your new adventure, de cluttering.

I can't remember the last time I got out so much, I have walked the dog everyday, meditated and exercised every morning and despite being on lock down I feel alive! We are in spring, a transition that sees Mother Nature take a deep breath and exhale as she opens out her arms to stretch, encouraging the earth to awaken and come alive, the start of new growth, new beginnings and for the first time in a long time I have noticed, really noticed and I am embracing every moment.

I am also making the most of this time to focus on Nellie Taylor and I'm really excited to be able to put all our new ideas in motion, introducing new treatments, product lines and promotions, updating and revamping to make your experience with us even better.

Are Bees harmed for the Bee Sting Facial?

As yet, bee venom cannot be created synthetically, which means the only access to apitoxin is by extraction from bees. Historically, this was lethal to bees.
